Message to Pope Leo:
Bishops gathered without the people is not synodal. Families deserve to be present and have a say in Conversations about family ministry.
We support your having a Convsersation in the Spirit about Family Ministry in today’s world. Times have changed and the Church needs to read the signs of the times. But any conversation about families must have families present and included in sharing experiences.
Back in 2014, we gathered in St. Peter’s Square to welcome the start oof the Family Synod called by Pope Francis. We held up this sign reminding our pope that families need to be included. It took nine more years after that, but in 2023 lay women and men were invited to participate in the Synod of Bishops. Pope Leo: Please don’t let us go backwards. In your coming gathering of Presidents of worldwide conferences of bishops, invite lay women and men to join in your Conversation in the Spirit. “Any decision on family ministry made without families present will not be recognized or heeded,” said Rene Reid, director of CCRI.
