December 17/18, 2022

Our next Global Ecclesial Synod Council (GESC) gathering will be held this coming Saturday/Sunday, Dec. 17/18 and will be facilitated by Luca Badini, a member of the Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research. Our guest for the first hour will be Dr. Myriam Wijlens a canon lawyer who, among other topics, will discuss the basis for proposing during the Continental Synod how to address these issues through revisions in canon law:

  • making pastoral councils mandatory, deliberative, and representative.
  • amending Canon §129 to affirm right of the baptized to participate in church governance
  • explore other changes in canon law to make women fully equal in the Church
  • explore recognition of Small/Intentional Christian Communities as structural components of Church in canon law.

The last half hour, (1) Root and Branch will explore what you would want from a lay-led, virtual gathering of reform groups output to Rome in October 2023 for the world’s religious press and (2) we will discern among ourselves what more we can do to prepare for the Continental Stage of the Synod.
